Affiliations

Black Mesa Consulting is involved in a wide  variety of professional and community organizations.

We have been a member and sometime participant in Rice Alliance events, including the Rice Alliance Venture Forums and other events designed to highlight emerging ventures on the Texas Gulf Coast. 

The Houston Technology Center is the premier non-profit technology business incubator and support organization for the Houston metropolitan area. We have been a member of the Houston Technology Center's screening committee for software and information technology clients, as well as a participant in the Tech Champions venture presentation program. 

We are a member of the OKC Co-working Collaborative, a co-working center and technology community space in mid-town Oklahoma City. We maintain a private office suite at the CoCo and enjoy the many innovative and creative people and events at the CoCo, including OpenBeta events, BarCamp, and the many technical user groups who use the CoCo as their home base.

We are a member of the Entrepreneur's Organization, the premier global network of 7,300 business owners worldwide. Providing entrepreneurial education, advocacy and leadership, EO has a well-deserved reputation as the leading social and business network for entrepreneurs.

We are a member of the OpenBeta community and have participated in events by providing speakers on entrepreneurial topics and by judging business plan contests. OpenBeta is an "unconference" held in Oklahoma City for internet professionals, entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts. The events are participant-driven community events focused on connecting and encouraging members of the technology community to develop new opportunities and businesses.

We are a past member of the Houston Angel Network, a group of SEC-accredited investors evaluating early-stage technology investment opportunities. We were instrumental in the re-launch of the HAN in 2002 through 2004 as an active member of the HAN Steering Committee, which structured and launched the new organization, hired a professional director and developed one of the leading investment screening processes in the US. The HAN is the largest and most active angel investor network in Texas and has funded $27MM into 54 deals.

We have had the privilege of judging the Oklahoma Governor's Cup business plan competition. This is the Oklahoma state-wide business plan competition for undergraduate and graduate students that draws teams from around the state to compete for $200,000 in cash, $50,000 of in-kind awards, $40,000 in fellowships and $10,000 in scholarships. The winners go on to the Tri-State business plan competition in May in Las Vegas.

We have judged the Southwest Business Plan Contest at Rice University.The SWBPC is one of the premier business plan competitions in the world and representing the most prize money of any intercollegiate contest in the world. The event is hosted by the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Management. 36 teams from the top MBA schools in the US compete for over $800,000 in prizes and an opportunity to advance to the nationwide MOOT CORP competition. Teams attending RBPC have the opportunity to meet and network with over 150 experienced venture capital principals, early stage investors, successful entrepreneurs and/or senior business leaders who will serve as judges for the competition.
